Design and layout

IBM Cloudscape V10.0 is a pure, open source-based Java relational database management system that can be embedded in Java programs and used for online transaction processing (OLTP). A platform-independent, small-footprint (2MB) database, Cloudscape V10.0 integrates tightly with any Java-based solution.

Overview
  • Source code is now available on the Apache Incubator Project site.
  • Zero-cost licensing for both open source and commercial versions.
  • Runs on any standard Java Virtual Machine (JVM), allowing developers to "write once, deploy anywhere."
  • Embedded inside Java applications on the server, on the desktop or in pervasive devices.
  • Includes Cloudscape Network Server which provides multi-user connectivity to IBM Cloudscape databases within a single system, or over a network using standard Distributed Relational Database Architecture™ (DRDA®) protocol.
  • Delivers zero-administration functionality to eliminate the need for a dedicated database administrator.

You spend considerable time and money developing database applications for your market segment. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to deploy those solutions on any operating system platform? That's where IBM Cloudscape V10.0 can make a big difference.

IBM Cloudscape V10.0 is a pure, open source-based Java relational database management system that can be embedded in Java programs and used for online transaction processing (OLTP). IBM is releasing Cloudscape V10.0 as open source under the name "Derby." The source code, maintained by the Apache Foundation, is now available on the Apache Incubator Project site.

IBM Cloudscape has already been proven in the marketplace. There are approximately 100 IBM Business Partners using Cloudscape today. Over 80 IBM products have shipped or plan to ship with Cloudscape in the near future.

IBM Cloudscape has a strong affinity with the desktop, and when combined with Eclipse can be used to develop rich, data-intensive desktop applications that have the operating system portability of Java, but use the native OS windowing system so they "look" like they belong there. This includes Windows, Linux and, in the second half of 2004, Mac OS X. But Cloudscape also comes with Cloudscape Network Server which provides multi-user connectivity to Cloudscape databases within a single system, or over a network.

IBM Cloudscape V10.0 is being offered at zero-cost licensing for both open source and commercial versions. For more details about purchasing support for the commercial product, call 312.884.7640
